A liquid culture syringe contains live, actively-growing mushroom mycelium suspended in a sterile nutrient broth. A spore syringe contains dormant spores that must germinate before colonization can begin. Liquid culture colonizes substrates significantly faster and more reliably because the mycelium is already alive and vigorous.

Sanitize the injection port on your substrate with isopropyl alcohol, shake the syringe to redistribute the mycelium, then inject 1–3 cc through the self-healing port. Work in front of a flow hood or inside a still air box for best results. Incubate at 75–81°F until fully colonized.

Use liquid culture syringes to inoculate sterilized grain bags, BRF jars, all-in-one grow bags, bulk substrate bags, and agar plates. One 10ml syringe typically inoculates 3–10 substrates, depending on inoculation rate.

Refrigerated liquid culture syringes last several months, though fresh is always best. They are perishable — refrigerate upon receipt and use as soon as possible for the healthiest, most vigorous mycelium. Do not freeze.

A laminar flow hood is ideal, but not strictly required. The self-healing injection ports on most substrate products are designed to minimize contamination risk. Beginners can successfully use liquid culture with a simple still air box (SAB) and sterile technique. For commercial or high-volume work, a flow hood dramatically reduces contamination rates.

One 10ml syringe inoculates roughly 3–10 substrate bags or jars at 1–3 cc each. For small home grows, one syringe is often enough. For larger projects, consider our liquid culture expander kit that turns a single syringe into 40 — dramatically reducing cost per inoculation.

Every batch is pressure sterilized in commercial autoclaves before inoculation to ensure contamination-free results.
